Funding!

Excited to discover today that the medical product my team has been developing throughout our final year of school has received substantial ( for us anyways ) funding through ASU’s Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative, an accelerator program we applied to several months ago. Out of approximately 340 applicants, we were selected to be one of the 20 student businesses to receive funding, office space, and training for our nascent product/business.

In the upcoming months, we’ll be receiving a great deal of help and training regarding our pending business strategies, but for now it’s good to know someone is interested in a product we have worked on for the entire school year. Although I’ll be working full time at IBM in the next few weeks physically removed from the team, I’m hoping to maintain time to contribute any physical product designing knowledge I can offer.

All in all I’m super proud of the work we’ve done thus far and can’t wait to see what we’ll do with this incredible opportunity. Team Link’s done good!

At this point all I need to do now is just finish my personal documentation of the project and everything will be just dandy.

For the first time in a long time, I’m really satisfied with the overall architecture of my portfolio website.

All I really need to do at this point is polish off the process of a research project I’m currently working on and properly document some personal projects I’ve been dabbling at.

I take photos with an iphone 4, and I primarily render (3D) using Rhinoceros 5 and Keyshot. Pretty straightforward!

End of Semester, Brief Summary

I’m hoping to write up a bunch of thoughts / “process stuff” soon about all of the work my team and I have finished up recently. This is just a prelude to text-heavy posts in the future.

We’ve just finished up a 3-month long research phase which primarily consisted of exploring the landscape of problems related to wheelchair users who are often paralyzed from the either the neck or waist down. Much of the insight that was gathered after talking to people, self-experience, and data gathering led my team and I to direct our design efforts towards “enabling independence for disabled users of wheelchairs”. After many brainstorm sessions and lots of concept cutting, we decided to pursue developing three products that assisted users in their most vulnerable states.

I’ll talk about these three products we’ve been working on for the last two and a half weeks in a later post. Although all three product concepts are viable in their own way, we can only pursue one to develop fully for the next semester. I’ll write more about this later.

I’m in the very initial stages of mocking up prototypes for three separate products, all of them being ‘accessories to make independence more viable as someone bound to a wheelchair’.

The product I’ve been taking photos of is a portable electrotherapy device that can be used and applied by someone who has little to no usage of the digits on their hand. I’m atm attempting to work out the kinks of what I’ve called a ‘sandwich system’ for assembling the product together! I’ll be posting a lot more on all three of these.
